There is a HUGE announcement on The Writer's Guide to E-publishing this morning. Mark Williams has announced MWiDP:
We are looking for writers to join us in a new cloud partnership where the writer has almost all the advantages of being indie, but also almost all the advantages of a “small publisher” brand. The gist is that experienced self-publishers on the other side of the pond are creating a collective small imprint for authors in the U.S. to really breakthrough over there. I love the idea of this group for a few reasons:
- It's linking up authors so that readers can find great titles by other indie authors. One of the recent criticisms I've read about the changes to Amazon's reader forums is that authors have relied on Amazon to do the heavy lifting for too long when it comes to marketing.
- Although membership costs a percentage of your net royalty, 20%, the contract is term limited. If you provide the formatted file and cover art, the contract can be ended at any time with 30 days notice.
- For a slightly higher percentage, or longer contract, other services such as editing, formatting, and cover art can be negotiated.
A robotics engineer asks his business partner to marry him, but a previous one-night stand is having his baby. CANCELLED is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords. WIP: PAST DUE A nurse, crippled by debt, takes a part-time job in medical investigation only to find the man she's dating is a fraud! (status: outlining)
I hope you get to join us. I think it's going to be a fantastic, way-outside-the-box adventure. Really excited about it. Mark and Saffi are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne. I sent Mark an email, and he said he'd get back to me this week. But with it going viral, I still hope I make the cut. :) All of you seem just wonderful to work with, and I hope to help the team as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteHi, Elizabeth! I'm also giving Mark and Saffi SPLITSVILLE.COM. I see them more as a distributor than a publisher. It's a great deal and I'm excited to be with some GREAT authors!
ReplyDeleteThey're kind of doing both :) For authors that have established networks and teams, they are fulfilling the role of distributor. I am going to take Mark and Co. up on a few of the other services they offer, such as editorial, and probably sign a two-year or longer contract. :)
